Brief & Core Educational history of Khampgar Druk Dharmakara College
Due to Cultural Revolution in Tibet, His Holiness 8th Gyalwa Dhokhampa Kalzang Dongyu Nyima along with hundreds of his entourage had to seek refuge in India, in 1958. Once they reached in India, before complete settling down in Tashi Jong, they lived Kalingpong at first and then Dhalhouse for some years. During those days, regardless of the condition, 8th Khamtrul Rinpoche particularly invited many great teachers: Nyingma Khenpo Tsondue, Kagyu Khenpo Choedar and Sakya Khenpo Rinchen to teach major philosophical text of Buddhism to novice monks and young reincarnations one (Tulkus). After the Parinirvana of 8th Khamtrul Rinpoche, His Eminence 8th Dorzong Rinpoche appointed to Losal Zangpo as a Khenpo who has taken many teachings from the great Khenpos and also was advised by 8th Khamptrul Rinpoche to take care of the teaching philosophy. Since then, Khenpo Zangpo Bodh had taught Buddhist Philosophy to around forty –novice- monks and young Tulkus for many years. As a result, many students of Khenpo Zangpo Bodh has been teachings and leading Buddhist philosophical institutes, retreat centers and ritual centers in Bhutan and other Himalayan regions.
Later, His Eminence Jamyang Khyentse Yeshi Rinpoche built an institution in Tashi Jong, which has main prayers hall with consecrated statues and accommodation for the monks. This was built mainly named on remembrance kindness of his root guru His Eminence 8th Khamtrul Rinpoche, where monks can study higher Tibetan studies or Buddhist philosophy. After the well finishing of the institution,Jamyang Khyentse Yeshi Rinpoche offered the institution, with 10 lakh rupees as budget for food expenses of monks in future, to His Eminence 9th Khamtrul Rinpoche Shedup Nyima.
In 2003, under the guidance of 9th Khamtrul Rinpoche, philosophical institution was commenced with around 20-monk- students in Tashi Jong. Khenpo Lawang Dorje, one of the main teachers of Penying monastery in Tibet, was the first who had taught way of reasoning (Riglam) at the beginning and then Khenpo Losal Zangpo had taught entering the conduct of Bodhisattva (Bodhicharya Avatara). Then a Khenpo from Dzongsar Sheda, Jamyang khyentse, had taught Pramana and reteaching had been done by Popa Tulku then. A student, named Tashi Gyaltsen took the responsibility of discipliner.
In 2004, Khenpo Losal Zangpo, Khenpo Trinlay Namgyal who was invited from Dzongsar Sheda in India, Choeying Lhundup who came from Khampagar in Tibet had taught in Khamgar Sheda in Tashi Jong, and two other monks Jampa Yonten and Nawang Zangpo, who came from south India, helped them in teaching as well. Tashi Gyaltsen continued his responsibility as discipliner.
End of the year 2005, considering great performance of Choeying Lhundup in his teachings and studying Sutra and Tantra for many years he was appointed as a Khenpo by His Eminence 9th Khamtrul Rinpoche in Tashi Jong. Teachers Jampa Yonten and Nawang Zangpo constantly kept teaching and Tashi Gyaltsen took the same responsibility. In 2006, Khenpo Choeying Lhundup and teachers Jampa Yonten and Nawang Zangpo took the teaching responsibility and discipliner responsibility handed over to Lhundup Palden, a student of Sheda. In this year, under the guindance of above Khenpos and teachers rules and regulation of Sheda was tightened.
Due to substantial increasing of the number of monks in the Sheda, a special teacher Yonten, from the Sera monastery in south india, was invited to teach and Khenpo Choeying Lhundup and teacher Jampa Yonten kept doing similar in teachings. Yeshi Puntsok was appointed as discipliner and Khenpos and teachers helped him looking after the rules and regulation as well.
Again in 2008, a Geshi from Sera je monastery in south India, named Gyaltsen Phendey was invited to teach in Sheda and Khenpo Choeying Lhundup and teacher Jampa Yonten continued their teachings. Student Rinchen Wangchuk took the discipliner’s responsibility. In addition, in this year, teacher Nawang Zangpo was sent to teach in D.G.L nunnery. Yet, around 40 new-young- students from Nepal arrived here and arranged a new school at separate. A senior- monk Lekshe Jorden took care of new students as a teacher.
In 2009, Geshi Gyaltsen Phendey, Khenpo Choeying Lhundup and teacher Jampa Yonten taught the students. In this year, considering excellent teachings, studying many years Sutra, Tantra at and other general learning of grammar, literature etc. at several academic center and best morality of teachers Jampa Yonten and Nawang Zangpo, His Eminence 9th Khamtrul Rinpoche leveled as Khenpo to Jampa Yonten and Nawang Zangpo. Moreover, senior students Tsultrim Namgyal, Tenzin Topgyal and Nawang Losal were appointed as (Chorpon) who repeat the teaching of main Khenpo to help students to get the exact comprehension of teaching. Yet, Tenzin Topgyal, Nawang Losal, Rinchen Wangchuk, Tashi Gyaltsen, Sonam Wangyal, Tsultrim Namgyal, Tenzin Jampa, Lodue Gyamtso, Tsultrim Namdak, Tsewang Dechen, Nawang Gyaltsen, Tsultrim Zangpo, Yeshi Phuntsok, Garwang Trinlay, Lekshi Jorden, Sangye Trinlay, and Jigmey Lodoe were certified as an equivalent of B.A. degree and given certificate of Prajapramitta. On top of that, due to constructed a primary school and its rooms by Popa Tulku, vice president of Tashi Jong then, all the new students were able to shift in that school. In this year, discipliner was done by Nawang Losal.
In 2010, the main teachings were constantly taken care by Khenpo Choeying Lhundup, Khenpo Jampa Yonten and Geshi Gyaltsen Phendey. Same year, Chorpon Tsultrim Namgyal was leveled as Khenpo and invited at Trulshik monastery at Kham in Tibet as their Khenpo. Rinchen Wangchuk and Sonam Wangyal were appointed for Chorpon. Rest, Tsultrim Tenzin, Tsewang Lhundup, Tulku Nyedon Tenzin, Topchu Trinlay, Tenzin Choegyal, Ogyen Dorje, Sonam Drakpa and Tashi Tsering were certified as an equivalent of B. A. degree and given certificate of Prajapramitta. Sonam Drakpa took the discipliner responsibility in this year.
In 2011, Khenpo Choeying Lhundup, Khenpo Trinlay Zangpo and teacher (Loppon) Tenzin Topgyal had given the classes. In addition, Chorpon Tenzin Topgyal, Chorpon Nawang Losal, Lodue Gyatso, Jigmey Lodue, Yeshi Phuntsok, Lekshi Jorden, Tsultrim Zangpo and Garwang Trinlay were certified as an equivalent M.A degree and given graduation certificate. Tashi Gyaltsen and Lodue Gyamtso were newly appointed for Chorpon. Another students, Kalzang Dawa, Sonam Topgyal,Choeten Jiggyal,Jigme Tsering, Samten Lhundup, Nyima Dorje, Ladhak Jigme Tsering and Sonam Tenzin were certified as an equivalent to B.A. degree and given certificate of Prajapramitta. In this year, discipliner was done by Lodue Gyamtso.
In 2012, Ven. Khenpo Choeying Lhundup, Khenpo Trinlay Zangpo and Loppon Tenzin Topgyal continued their teaching. Loppon Nawang Losal was sent to D.G.L. nunnery to teach. Other students, Tashi Gyaltsen, Tenzin Jampa and Sanjay Trinlay were certified as an equivalent to M.A. degree and given graduation certificate. Tenzin Jampa, Nawang Gyaltsen and Tsultrim Namdak were newly appointed as Chorpon. In addition, Tsering Paljor, Dongyu Gyaltsen,Choephel Gyatso, Sherap Gyaltsen, Nupgon Choegyal, Sangjay Dorje, Rinchen Phuntsok, Sonam Lingye, Nyima Tsering and Kalzang Lhudup were certified as an equivalent to B.A. degree and given certificate of Prajapramitta. Graduated students Yeshi Phuntsok and Tsultrim Zangpo were appointed as teacher of primary school and the discipliner was done by Tenzin Jampa in this year.
In 2013, Ven. Khenpo Choeying Lhundup, Khenpo Trinlay Zangpo, Loppon Tenzing Topgyal and Sonam Wangyal gave the teachings. Some other students: Tsultrim Namdak, Sonam Wangyal, Tsewang Dechen, Nawang Gyaltsen were certified as an equivalent to M.A. degree and given graduation certificate. Rest, graduated Lodue Gyatso was sent to teaching at Young Lama School or primary school of ritual unit in the monastery. Late in this year, graduated Tenzin Jampa was sent at Jangchup Jong Dorzong monastery for editing great dictionary of Drukpa lineage, while discipliner was done by graduated Tsewang Dechen.
In the year of 2014, Ven. Khenpo Choeying Lhundup, Loppon Tenzin Topgyal, Loppon Sonam Wangyal, Loppon Tsewang Dechen did teaching to the students. And Tsewang Lhundup, Ogyen Dorje, Sonam Drakpa, and Tashi Tsering were certified as an equivalent to M.A. degree and given graduation certificate whereas, Nyima Gyaltsen, Sangjay Dorje, Demi Sherap, Namgyal Dorje, Tsering Dorje, Tulku Nyawang Gelek, Gelek Phuntsok, Shedup Tenzin and Lodue Woser were certified as an equivalent to B.A. degree and given certificate of Prajapramitta. Rest, graduated Tashi Gyaltsen was sent to D.G.L. nunnery to teach, while graduated Nawang Gyaltsen and Tsultrim Namdak opted to join in retreat centre for entire life practice. Graduated Tenzin Choegyal was appointed as teacher of Primary school of K.D.D. College. Discipliner was done by graduated Tsewang Lhundup in this year.
In 2015, under the guidance of Ven. Khenpo Choeying Lhundup, Khenpo Tenzin Tonpgyal, Loppon Tsewang Dechen and Loppon Sonam Wangyal gave teaching in the Sheda. In the year, His Eminence 9th Khamtrul Rinpoche appointed to Tenzin Topgyal and Tashi Gyaltsen as Khenpo while, Kalzang Dawa, Sonam Topgyal, Choeten Jiggyal, Jigme Tsering , Samten Lhundup and Nyima Dorje were certified as an equivalent to M.A. degree and given graduation certificate to them. Graduated Sonam Drakpa was invited in Phuntsok Ling institution in Bhutan for teaching and teacher Lekshi Jorden Joined in retreat centre. Graduate Tsewang Lhudup and Nyima Dorje were selected for discipliner in this year.
In 2016, Ven. Khenpo Choeying Lhundup, Khenpo Tenzing Topgyal, Loppon Tsewang Dechen, Loppon Tsewang Lhundup and Kalzang Dawa ran the classes by their teaching. Kham Ling Tenphen monastery, in Tibet, invited Khenpo Tashi Gyaltsen to their monastery for to be Khenpo and teach. And Khenpo Sonam Wangyal was sent to D.G.L. nunnery for teaching. Graduated Nyima Dorje was appointed as a teacher at K.D.D. College primary school. Teacher Tenzin Choegyal went for retreat in Yamentaka retreat centre for lifelong practice while, other two graduated monks: Kalzang Dawa and Jigme Tsering were invited at Rinchen Ling institution in Bhutan. Moreover, Loppon Sonam Topgyal was also invited to teach at Phuntsok Ling institute in Bhutan. For summer two months, Loppon Sonam Wangyal, Loppon Lodue Gyatso and Loppon Tenzin Jampa were sent teach in several monastery in Zangkar region, in Ladhak. In this year, His Eminence 9th Khamtrul Rinpoche grant Khenpo name to Loppon Tenzin Jampa, Loppon Lodue Gyatso, Loppon Tsewang Dechen and Loppon Sonam Drakpa. Yet, Sonam Drukda, Thaplam Gyatso, Mifam Lodue, Tsultrim Gyatso, Jurmi Sherap, Tenzin Gyaltsen, Khedup Palden, Jigme Nawang Namdrol, Lungrig Gyatso, Nawang Dorje and Nawang Sangjay Rangjung were certified as an equivalent to B.A. degree and given certificate of Prajapramitta. Graduated Samten Lhundup and Sherap Gyaltsen did the discipliner in the year.
In 2017, Ven. Khenpo Choeying Lhundup, Ven. Khenpo Tenzin Topgyal, Teacher Thupten Gelek and Teacher Nawang Choezang gave the teaching in classes. And, during summer three months, Loppon Samten Lhundup was sent to Zangkar region to teach in several monasteries. Other many monks: Tsering Paljor, Dongyu Gyaltsen, Choephel Gyatso, Sherap Gyaltsen, Nupgon Choegyal,, Rinchen Phuntsok, Sonam Phuntsok andSonam Linggey were certified as an equivalent to M.A. degree and given graduation certificate. On the other hand, Ladhak Sonam Sherap, Nawang Yarphel, Khunu Sonam Sherap, Tsultrim Namgyal, Drukpa Tsering and Konchok Gyaltsen were certified as an equivalent to B.A. degree and given certificate of Prajapramitta. Discipliner was done by graduated Choeten Jiggyal and Nyima Tsering in this year.
In the year of 2018, since Ven. Khenp Choeying Lhundup was invited for guidance at Khamgar Dharma Centre in Korea, Ven Khenpo Tenzin Topgyal, Khenpo Tenzin Jampa, Teacher Thupten Gelek, Loppon Choeten Jiggyal and Loppon Dongyu Gyaltsen has been teaching to the students. Rest, Loppon Nawang Choezang and Choephel Gyatso were sent to Jangchup Jong monastery for teaching and Loppon Sherap Gyaltsen was sent to Zangkar region to teach in monasteries, while Loppon Samten Lhundup was asked to do teacher at K.D.D. College primary school. Teacher Tsultrim Zangpo was sent to Khamgar Dharma Centre in Vietnam.
